About
Following a teaching career in Art and Design, specialising in Textiles, together with a heritage of an industrial mill town in Lancashire Carol Ann is now a self taught practising textile artist. Her practice focuses on natural dyes specialising in Indigo in her Studio by the sea. Recently she was Artist in Residence at Ventnor Botanic Garden working with the 37 varieties of Eucalypts growing there. This residency will continue later in the year using the eucalypts as a source material for the printing and dyeing of textiles. Carol Ann will be exhibiting contemporary natural indigo dyed and hand stitched shibori textiles for on and off the body inspired by both the local shoreline and many travels to East Asia. In particular, Japan, where her research into Japanese firefighters workwear has formed the basis of her current work. This was exhibited at the Japanese Textiles and Craft Festival in London and was also selected for the Royal West of England Open Exhibition in Bristol. As this is a working Studio there will be demonstrations of different stages of the designing and making processes during the open sessions.
As Carol Ann is 'downsizing' there will be many Artworks from previous years at greatly reduced prices.
